[ A hint of indignation bubbles under the surface as Mammon ruffles her hair, but Zelda stops herself from rebuking him. Mammon can have this this time.
Realizing what she must look like, Zelda pushes her worry aside and forces herself to brighten. ]
Nonsense, I am happy to. I cannot claim to be as accomplished a chef as Satan, but I can assure you my food is perfectly sufficient.
[ Zelda waits expectantly for Mammon to invite her inside. He certainly wouldn't try to just take the food and turn her away, would he? ]
[ A part of him wanted to turn her away, but she was Satan's friend... Pushing her away seemed kinda cruel at this point, when she was very clearly worried. He opened the door further for Zelda and stepped to the side. ]
The... kitchen's a little messy, but the counters are cleaned off or whatever.
that's right, you wouldn't just take the food and run. that'd be GREEDY.
Thank you. [ She gives him a polite nod as she steps past him to enter the house.
As her eyes adjust to the dim interior, Zelda notices that the treehouse Satan and Mammon share is looking a little more... lived in than she's accustomed to seeing. Hmm. ]
The kitchen is this way, right? [ Zelda nods her head in the opposite direction of the kitchen. ]
right??? a-and who would be *that* greedy? aha....ha
[ Mammon gives her a glance, the faintest looks of amusement curling onto his lips. He shook his head and just slowly started nudging Zelda in the right direction. ]
Ah? [ Zelda adjusts her trajectory as she is unexpectedly nudged in the opposite direction. Whoops, she must be misremembering. ] Oh, that way. Pardon me.
[ Seeing the mess on the way to the kitchen is enough to make Zelda consciously control her reaction when she enters. Ah. Yes, this is... something. Plenty of dirty dishes, crumbs, empty bottles and food containers. But there is space enough on the countertops for Zelda to set down the stoneware container with the food she prepared. ]
It's seafood curry. I have not cooked this before, but with the, uh, new oceanβ [ That's so weird to say. ] βthere has been an increase in seafood available to purchase at the market and I thought this would be the perfect time to try. [ A pause. ] I had Link taste-test it before I came over and he assures me that it is sufficient.
[ That was one of the people in her nightmare wasn't he? Mammon frowns thoughtfully as he listens to her and helps make a little more space in the kitchen. ]
[ While she starts looking around the kitchen for clean dishwear, Mammon starts grabbing a bag to start tossing out a lot of the junk that's just lying on the floor. It felt kinda rude not to when she went through all the effort to bring food over... ]
I mean I'd prolly still eat it even if it tasted like dirt.
[ A beat. Not sure if that's a dig at her cooking skills or Mammon's taste in food (or lack thereof). Zelda shoves aside the instinct to be offended and forces herself to give Mammon the benefit of the doubt. He's hardly at his best right now, after all.
Zelda manages to locate a clean plate, bowl, and two mismatched spoons. Good enough. ]
It will, at the very least, be well-seasoned dirt. [ She scoops out two portions of curry. Zelda didn't just bring dinner over; Mammon also gets to enjoy (or suffer) her company. ] Bowl or plate, take your pick.
[ She doesn't have to see his blush to know that she flustered him. Zelda has a little self-satisfied grin as she puts food into her bowl. ]
I thought you might like some company. [ Not that Satan's comatose form isn't company, but he's not a very good conversationalist right now.
Zelda glances around, wondering if there's a dining table available or if they're just going to stand in the kitchen. (She's not going to comment either way.) ]
[ Luckily for them, the mess Mammon has kept has mostly kept to the kitchen. So he gives her a nudge and starts heading off to the living room that looked to be in a lot better shape. ]
[ Mammon nudges a couple cushions to the side to make a little more space for Zelda to sit down. ]
Yeah... I mean I'm the second oldest after all. I'm used to hearin' all of them complainin' on a daily basis. Blah Blah this. Blah Blah that. Don't sneak into my room and sell my make up, Mammon! Who said you could play my video games, Mammon! After a while it just feels... kinda lonely without it.
[ Zelda sits down in the offered seat, careful not to spill any of her food. ]
They certainly sound like little brothers! [ She says with a laugh. ] Or so I hear. I am an only child myself, but I had a friend in the castle who often complained about her sister.
But I felt a little like that before Link arrived.
[ That jest is enough to trigger Zelda's defensiveness. Her cheeks turn pink. ]
Of-Of course you're enough! You're both very dear to me and I love to spend time with you. But I cannot demand your company every waking moment or impose myself on you at every mealtime, especiallyβ
[ Oh. He's teasing her. She looks down at her food, embarrassed. ] Well, I would have been much lonelier without you and Satan.
[ he cracks a smile at her outburst. She was always usually so composed, so seeing her get a little more emotional even if it was just from his teasing was a little enjoyable. Sorry, Zelda.
He reached out to ruffle her hair affectionately. ]
I can't really speak for Satan, but I'm pretty sure he'd agree with me when I say it wouldn't really be imposin' if it was you.
[ Zelda makes a little indignant noise as Mammon ruffles her hair, but doesn't move out of his reach. She doesn't quite have the words to say why she likes it, but she does. ]
Yes, I can almost hear him saying the same. [ She huffs out a little sigh. ] It feels strange not to hear 'Little Miss Squash' at every other turn.
Absolutely. [ Zelda nods emphatically. ] He cannot simply take a little nap or a month-long trip to a dreamscape who goddess knows what else without telling us in advance. It's most inconsiderate!
[ If her reunion with Link is anything to go by, Zelda would probably do the exact same thing. ]
Right? Like that's the first rule of bein' polite. Write a note if you're gonna be away for a while or somethin'! Looks like he forgot his manners or somethin!
